Chiang Mai is ready to reopen for tourism in order to return liveliness to tourism in Chiang Mai at the end of the year, thus leading to high-value and sustainable tourism.

Chiang Mai is another popular destination among both Thai and foreign tourists. The province is full of amazing tourist attractions that answer every lifestyle, be it adventure enthusiasts who seek the embrace of nature or slow-life folks who fall in love with the Northern art and culture. Chiang Mai is ready to reopen for tourism The province has been preparing to take great care of all visitors. 

Mr. Ratthapon Naradisorn, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai province, presided at the press conference announcing the province’s readiness in welcoming Thai and expat tourists in order to recover Thai tourism and stimulate the overall economy of Thailand during the upcoming tourist season at the end of the year. 

Most of the attractions in Chiang Mai have reopened to welcome tourists again, including all popular walking streets; such as, the Ratchadamnoen Walking Street, Wua Lai Walking Street, Night Bazaar, Nimmanhemin Walking Street, and the neighbouring areas. The province has implemented the “Blue Zone Model” to build trust among visitors, allowing them to fully experience charming Chiang Mai, be it natural attractions that are more stunning than ever before, or a variety of unique attractions that represents every fascinating dimension of Chiang Mai. Whether you are a fan of coffee, café hoppers, workcation folks, digital nomad groups, cultural tourism enthusiasts, or sports lovers, Chiang Mai has got it all covered. Moreover, Chiang Mai is holding many cultural events under the new normal concept to welcome tourists back. During the first week of December, Chiang Mai will hold the “Chiang Mai Ornamental Plants and Flowers Festival”. Another famous cultural event that Chiang Mai will hold in December is the “Chiang Mai Countdown 2022”, which is a Lanna-style New Year. Every event will be held under strict safety and health measures. All participants must wear a face mask and comply with the measures for everyone’s safety.

All in all, Chiang Mai has prioritised improving the economy and people’s standard of living by utilising the province’s unique identity, traditions, culture, and folk arts as a tool to improve the local communities. The province supports cooperation between the communities to strengthen sustainable tourism through various tourism campaigns that have been integrated with various organisations; for example, the Traditional Chiang Mai New Year Festival, Chiang Mai the City of Creativity and Handicraft and Folk Arts, and Chiang Mai to the City of the World Heritage. For the upcoming tourist season, the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation will work closely with the government and private sectors related to tourism to prepare themselves for the reopening to welcome tourists back ultimately stimulating the recovery of domestic tourism income.
